Ted MuehlingDesigner and Pratt alumnus Ted Muehling received the 2006 Rowena Reed Kostellow Award during the 70th anniversary celebration of Pratt Institute’s Department of Industrial Design on Thursday, October 12 at the Knoll Showroom in Manhattan. The Rowena Award recognizes Ted Muehling for advancing the principals of three-dimensional design that Rowena Reed Kostellow taught at Pratt.

Ted Muehling, the professional who will receive this year’s Rowena Reed Kostellow Award, studied design at Pratt Institute, where his mentors included William Fogler, Gerald Gulotta, and Rowena Reed Kostellow. Since graduating in 1975, Muehling has designed jewelry inspired by the organic forms found in nature and has recently expanded his repertoire to include spoons, lighting, and other decorative and functional objects. He has received many awards for his work, which is included in numerous public and private collections.

“Ted is the embodiment of all of Rowena’s teachings,” says Matthew Burger, Chair of Industrial Design at Pratt Institute. “His work is quintessence of beautiful form, line, and space.”
